What awaits you with the Calathea Sisters?

Welcome to Calathea Sisters - the Blog

Welcome to our blog, it's great to have you here! We would like to use this first blog post to briefly introduce ourselves again and explain why this blog even exists.

We are Chantal and Anette, two sisters from the beautiful south of Germany. In 2024, we discovered our passion for Marantaceae - that probably sounds like a very short time at first, yes. Since then, however, we have devoted ourselves intensely to this plant family every single day, so it doesn't feel quite so short anymore.

Of course we are not experts, but we would like to share our previous experiences and help others avoid making mistakes that we ourselves made.

Since we started working with the arrowroot family, we have been aware of the rather negative reputation of these plants, as well as numerous misconceptions, misidentifications, and many unresolved questions.

And this is exactly where we come into play, because we want to contribute to improving the generally prevailing negative image of Marantaceae, help you with correct identification, and show in a practical way that it is not that complicated to make these plants happy.

These topics await you

Whether you are at the beginning of your Marantaceae journey, or have been a lover of this plant family for a long time – with us, everyone should get their money's worth.

In this blog, we want to provide you with background information about prayer plants, as well as how these can be practically applied to our home conditions.

We show you everything about the topic of plant care, from choosing the right pot size, to watering and fertilizing, as well as pest control and product recommendations.

If you have already perfected all of this for yourself or your plants, we also want to take a closer look at varieties that can be easily confused in this blog and would like to have discussions with you about misconceptions, tricky open questions, or even points from our own research.

Let's grow together

Marantaceae are (still) not 'trendy' plants, although it can generally be observed that they are actually bought quite frequently. Not surprising, given their breathtaking foliage, right?

We invite you to join us in transforming the reputation of the Marantaceae for the better, to exchange with each other, to help out with useful tips and tricks, and to engage in interesting discussions.

Do you already have arrowroot plants at home? Then feel free to take a look at our plant gallery; maybe you'll also discover your specimen in our collections.
